Butler Creek Farm Environment & Cattle Management Practices

Our cattle are humanely raised on a small coastal Oregon Century Farm, owned and managed by our family for about 140 years. They are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. They eat a bio-diverse diet, grazing our natural grass pastures, forests and salt marshes year round. In winter their diets are supplemented with hay that is grown and harvested on site. We use rotational grazing practices. Our cattle are not given any antibiotics or hormones and are not fed any grains. Grass-fed beef is higher in Omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), another good fat. It also has more vitamin E, vitamin A and Beta-carotene than commercially raised beef. Our cattle are primarily Red Angus, chosen for high meat quality. It is important to us that our grass-fed cattle have a good life and are not transported on or off our property. Due to seasonal fluctuations and that our cattle range to forage for feed, there is variability from year to year in how much fat they put on. Our grass-fed beef is very flavorful. It is especially well suited for pot roasts, stews and ground beef. Active, grass-fed cattle produce leaner meat than their commercially raised counterparts.
